Financial Controller

Reporting to: Co-Founder / Finance Director
Based: Royston, Hertfordshire

Founded 20 years ago, Hotel Chocolat was launched with the single aim of bringing a better quality chocolate to the UK consumer. Still privately owned, Hotel Chocolat is today a cocoa grower and chocolatier as well as a highly successful retailer.

With operations in 30 UK and 2 overseas locations, and with an ambitious international growth strategy, Hotel Chocolat now requires a commercially-astute, rigorous and analytical Financial Controller to take responsibility for the key financial functions of the business.

Key Tasks

• Management Accounting.


• Analytical reporting. Key Performance Debtor management. Ensuring the operation of effective credit control.


• Budgetary Control. Keeping tight control over departmental budgets.


• Cashflow Control. Producing and monitoring cashflows of the businesses.


• Managing the accounts team of four people.


• Stock management.


• Product Costing.


• Internal Audit.


• VAT and Taxation


• Communicate and work effectively with all the other key departments.


• Legal, secretarial, and statutory


• Managing, preparing and reporting on the overseas companies (St Lucia and USA).


• Challenging areas that are not performing well and finding ways to improve these.

• Professional qualification ACA/ACCA/CIMA


• 3 years of post qualification experience in industry


• Broad commercial experience in medium sized businesses


• High level computer skills


• Very detailed Excel spreadsheet experience


• Proven management and people skills


• Good communication skills
